AC Milan leave USA defender Sergiño Dest OFF the roster for the Champions League knockout stage

AC Milan will not be including American right back Sergiño Dest in their upcoming UEFA Champions League matches in the Round of 16 against Tottenham Hotspur.

The US international has been struggling for game time since his loan move to Milan from Barcelona this summer.

Dest started in the club's 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the group stage, and has 98 minutes of game time across three other matches.

It's been a struggle for Dest to attempt to disrupt the starting spot club captain Davide Calabria has locked down at right back.

That includes competition in Serie A, where Dest has plenty of second half substitute appearances but only two starts.

Dest starred for the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - starting every match as the Americans made it out of the group stage before falling to Holland.

In his place, center back Malick Thiaw makes his way onto the roster, with the 21-year-old viewed as more versatile than Dest.

Elsewhere in the squad, ageless wonder Zlatan Ibrahimovic was left off the squad as the 41-year-old continues to recover from a knee procedure this summer.

Fans of I Rossoneri will be hoping the club can get past the Round of 16 in the Champions League for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Since then, the club has appeared in three Champions League tournaments. They fell to Barcelona in the 2012-13 Round of 16 and Atletico Madrid at the same stage the following season. They failed to make it out of the group stage last season.
