AC Milan is preparing a third and what it considers its final bid for Chelsea's Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea rejected Milan's last proposal of $24million overnight and, if unsuccessful with their next offer, the Italians are considering switching targets to Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal.
USA international Pulisic has made it clear that he wishes to join Milan but the club's offers, including an opening gambit of $15m plus add-ons, have failed to meet Chelsea's desired price.
Lyon made an offer of around $27m too at the weekend but that move did not appeal to the 24-year old.
Pulisic has an outline agreement with Milan over his contract but the Italians have a limited budget for transfer funds.
Chukwueze is a viable alternative should Milan fail to convince Chelsea to sell, while the Italian giants are also considering a separate deal for Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Pulisic saw a move to Manchester a United fall through last summer and has been looking for a fresh challenge after failing to cement a regular starting place under different Chelsea managers.
The USA international has made it clear that he only wishes to join Milan, telling Chelsea he would not join French side Lyon irrespective of its offer.
Pulisic, who cost Chelsea $74m from Borussia Dortmund, is one of 11 players who could leave.
