Mason Mount nets hat-trick in demolition of Norwich

Cobham academy graduate Mason Mount netted the first Premier League hat-trick of his fledgling Chelsea career as his side ran out 7-0 winners over a shambolic Norwich City outfit.

Opening the scoring in the seventh minute with a smart finish from outside the area, Mount added a second when he fired a penalty past Tim Krul at the second time of asking.

The Norwich stopper saved the first attempt, but it was required to be retaken after the Canaries ‘keeper was adjudged to have been off his line when the ball was struck, therefore gaining an advantage.

As the East Anglian outfit continued to fall apart, there was just time for Mount to tap in a third, and Chelsea’s seventh of the afternoon, after Ruben Loftus-Cheek squared the ball to him six yards out.

Latest on his contract revealed

Chelsea through and through, Mount’s contract nonetheless will have just two years left to run come next summer, with Chelsea surely keen to tie down their star man to a new long term deal in the near future.

And that is precisely the intention, as per reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who claims Chelsea view the attacker as “untouchable”.

Meanwhile, a new contract will be “discussed soon”, but “it will take some time”, no doubt because the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all currently locked in negotiations with their deals expiring this summer.

For Mount, staying with Chelsea will likely be his only goal, and if he continues to perform, he will remain in the team for the next decade.
