The agent of Renato Veiga has explained why the defender ended up at Villarreal this season.

The Chelsea defender spent the second-half of last season on-loan with Juventus and scored against the Bianconeri in last night's Champions League draw for Villarreal.

Veiga struck in the 90th minute to earn the Champions League draw and his agent Gaetano Montalbano told TMW: "Renato is very happy with his performance, with his incredibly intense, high-level performance. It wasn't easy to get back in the game, but he did well to believe in it and find the goal.

"He was happy to have scored, as he always tries to create opportunities from set pieces."

Montalbano added: "The relationship between Veiga and the Bianconeri was strong and intense, even in the short term. It remains a vivid memory even today.

"Then, of course, there's the pitch, and everyone must be professional. Juventus fans know how dedicated Veiga is to his work; they saw it last year."

No Juve return

On why Veiga didn't return to Juve this season, Montalbano explained: "This year was an exceptional circumstance, the first window of the Club World Cup. Especially regarding loans, and especially from teams in other countries like Chelsea, negotiations weren't easy or immediate.

"The club that owned the player didn't know its future, and at the same time, those who had the player on loan also had to evaluate the situation for a season that was effectively starting immediately.

" The timing of Juventus's management change also had an impact: while the previous management had certain certainties, the new ones needed time to evaluate.

"The change in management and  the timeframe meant we couldn't move quickly."
