Argentine fans were seen hailing their 'God-like' superstar Lionel Messi after he fired the South American side ahead against Australia on Saturday evening.

Messi found himself with the ball on the edge of the area as curled the ball past four Socceroos and Matt Ryan to find the far corner. And as Argentine players went crazy on the pitch - so too did their fans in the stands.

Footage from inside the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium showed Argentine fans appearing to bow in front of their megastar. And fans on social media have loved the reaction to the megastar in Qatar.

One fan tweeted: "Can't help but get goosebumps when the whole crowd bows shouting Messi!"

"Watching Messi play is a gift from God. The way he moves, passes and finishes goals are so effortless. It's breathtaking honestly. Every time he touches the field it's like Picasso just painted a new masterpiece," one fan gushed.

"If football were a religion, Lionel Messi would be its God," another added. While a third tweeted: "The hero worship of Messi is something else. Genius touched by god."

Messi once again at the crowd on its feet in the second half as he rolled back the years by skipping past two players in the centre of the park.

The 35-year-old then sprinted towards the goal, nutmegging one Australian player before and second was able to slide in, preventing Messi from pulling the trigger.
