Arsenal put the pressure on Manchester City in the Premier League title race after beating Newcastle 2-0 at St. James' Park last weekend
Arsenal remain locked in a race for the Premier League title with reigning champions Manchester City. The Gunners moved within a point of Pep Guardiola's side at the top of the table after beating Newcastle at St. James' Park last weekend.
One concern facing Arteta and his players is a fresh omen regarding their previous finishes in the Premier League during a high-scoring season. Arsenal have only scored more goals in two previous Premier League campaigns than they have netted this season.
During the 2004/05 season, the Gunners scored 87 goals and two seasons prior in the 2002/03 campaign they netted 85 goals - but they finished second in the league both times. This term Arsenal have scored 83 times and look set for their best goalscoring record in a Premier League season in the club's history, but are currently second in the table once again.
Arteta will hope that City slip up and drop points to allow the Gunners to reclaim top spot in the Premier League table and rely on his in-form attackers to fire Arsenal to a first title in 19 years.
