Arsenal have spent hundreds of millions on transfer fees in recent windows to upgrade Mikel Arteta's squad and those deals have had a major impact on the wage bill at the club
Stan Kroenke has backed Mikel Arteta yet again in the transfer market as Arsenal look to build on the successes of last season. The Gunners surprised many during the 2022/23 campaign, running Manchester City close in the Premier League before tailing off in the final few weeks.
The Gunners spent big before the 2021/22 season as well, with Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu among the stars to make the move to Emirates Stadium. This amounted to around £143million being spent on the Gunners squad, granting Arteta his wish of signing young and exciting players.
These two transfer windows, as you would expect, had a significant impact on Arsenal's wage bill. According to research by Genting Casino, the Gunners had the sixth highest wage bill in the Premier League last season, paying £124.2million in wages throughout the year.
Chelsea topped the list with the Blues' wage bill coming in at a whopping £251.2million for the year, with Raheem Sterling and Enzo Fernandez among the top ten best paid players in the league. Manchester United (£230.2million), Manchester City (£198million), Liverpool (£161.1million) and Tottenham (£131.8million) all paid more in wages than the Gunners last season.
According to the data, Gabriel Jesus was the 13th highest paid player in the Premier League last season, with weekly earnings of £265,000. No other Gunners player made the top 20.
