Match Report
The start of the match was immediately brilliant, with Inter approaching with personality and creating the first chance after just three minutes: Bonny received the ball and shot powerfully, drawing a save from Musso. Atletico replied with a shot from Griezmann, but the Frenchman's goal was disallowed for offside. As the minutes passed, the pressure from the Colchoneros grew: Josep Martinez was the absolute protagonist with a series of great saves, first on Carlos Martin and then on Almada, who tried to surprise him with a lob. In the 35th minute, however, the Spanish advantage arrived: Carlos Martin turned in the box, found space on his left foot and beat Martinez with precision for the 1-0 lead. The teams went into halftime with the Madrid side in the lead.
The second half opened with some changes on both sides, but it was Inter who took control of the game. The deserved equalizer arrived in the 59th minute: Mkhitaryan delivered a perfect ball into the center from the corner flag for Bisseck, who rose with a header and slotted it past Musso. It was 1-1 and the Nerazzurri team grew in confidence. In the following minutes, Inter came close to taking the lead several times: in the 73rd minute Kaczmarski shot just wide from outside the box, then in the 76th minute a great opportunity for Agbonifo was stopped by an onrushing Musso. Atletico responded with Barrios, but Martinez was still alert. The second half ended 1-1, a score that took the match to the penalty shootout lottery.
The Madrid side started from the spot with Griezmann, who scored. Inter responded with Venturini, who was cool and precise. Koke hit the crossbar, and Lavelli put the Nerazzurri ahead. Then came Atletico's comeback: Ruggeri converted, while Luis Henrique's shot was saved by Musso. O. Janneh did not miss, Acerbi was mesmerized, and finally Lenglet closed the series, giving the victory to the Colchoneros. The match against the Colchoneros was undoubtedly a useful test to get minutes in the legs and consolidate mechanisms, with good indications especially in the reaction and intensity shown in the second half.
