Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa claims he has an agreement to sign 'two top players'

Toni Freixa, one of the three candidates for the Barcelona presidency, has confirmed he has agreement in place with two 'top players' to join the club.

The presidential candidate also announced earlier this week that he has an agreement to sell 49 per cent of Barca Corporate; for £217million (€250m) to fund the transfers if he wins the election.

Frexia confirmed on Spanish radio programme El Larguero that the players would boost the Catalans at both ends of the pitch.

'There's an agreement with two differential players in attack and defence,' he confirmed.

Freixa didn't reveal the players' names, adding: 'Any player that wants to win the Ballon d'Or knows that they're only going to win it if they wear Barcelona's shirt.'

The presidential elections take place on March 7, and Frexia will compete for the prestigious position with Joan Laporta and Victor Font.

When asked of his chances of winning next month, he said: 'The response to our proposals has been very good. We're doing well.'

Freixa also denied claims that the Catalans had paid £8.6m (€10m) in commission to Spanish agent Josep Maria Minguella's son for the signing of Brazilian forward Malcolm from Bordeaux in 2018.

'We never pay more than 5 per cent commission for a signing. At the time, we paid €11.5m (£9.9m) to Mino Raiola for the signing of Ibrahimovic,' he added.

It's been a disappointing season so far for Barcelona; they're on the verge of Champions League elimination after losing the first leg of their last-16 tie 4-1 at home to Paris Saint-Germain. The second leg takes place on Wednesday, March 10.

The Catalans are currently third in LaLiga five points behind leaders Atletico Madrid but have played a game more and travel to Sevilla on Saturday.
