Leonardo Bonucci gave Lazio “credit” for their performance in the Supercoppa Italiana and said Juventus lost a trophy “we really care about”.
The Biancecelesti beat Juventus 3-1 on Sunday and the Italy defender didn’t have any excuses after the match.
“We must give Lazio credit for having played a great match,” Bonucci told JTV. “We knew they were in prime condition both physically and psychologically.
“In the start, we had to pay for our lack of aggression. But during the first half, we managed to bring back the balance in the game.
“In the second half, we conceded an accidental goal on the far post, where we knew they would try to put us in trouble playing with their five midfielders and attacking with the strikers. That’s how the game went.”
Now, Juventus are using the festive period to “recover” from a tough first half of the season and the 32-year-old said they are preparing for more “important games” after New Year’s.
“It’s too bad, it was a trophy we cared about,” he said. “We faced a team that proves to be superior in regards of previous years.
“The winners should be credited. We are trying to recover physically during the break. In 2020 there are a lot of important games waiting for us.”
