Jamie Carragher has sent a sobering message to Spurs supporters in the wake of Everton's shock 3-2 win on Sunday, telling them: 'You've got your Tottenham back'.
Ange Postecoglou's side endured yet another disappointing defeat after a dismal first half performance at Goodison Park, as the Toffees went into the half-time break with a three-goal advantage.
Spurs slipped to 15th in the Premier League table, compounding what has been a miserable start to the campaign in terms of results.
For all Tottenham's struggles, Postecoglou's side has at times been praised for their high-risk, high-reward approach, given it's very entertaining to watch.
Spurs fans initially celebrated the arrival of Postecoglou because his attacking style contrasted significantly to the philosophies favoured by former coaches Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
With pressure piling on Postecoglou, Carragher sent a sobering message to Tottenham fans to remind them exactly what they asked for.
'I like the fact that Postecoglou comes into Tottenham and the Tottenham fans were saying "we've got our Tottenham back". I get that because of what they saw under Conte and Jose Mourinho,' he said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.
'They've got their Tottenham back. Great goalscorers, terrible defensively, can't keep clean sheets. And basically they're the team that I described as the most entertaining team in the Premier League who I want to watch week in, week out because of that.
'But they have got their Tottenham back and that's what most people remember Tottenham as, a team who play, score goals, nice on the eye, but they've got no steel about them.'
The Liverpool legend repeatedly called Tottenham a 'mess' while on commentary duty on Sunday.
He said: 'It's like watching a kids' academy team where they just keep playing the same way and the coach keeps telling them "don't worry keep doing it. Results don't matter".
'It's a mess. Tarkowski gets his opportunity on the earlier set-piece and he comes in again. It's just unfortunate for Archie Gray. He's just got to throw his leg at it. It comes at him very quickly.
'You can't be getting beat 3-0 at half time against Everton. It could have been worse. This is a mess.'
The loss at Everton was Tottenham's 12th from 22 league games this season, with a huge test against Leicester to come at the weekend.
Despite pressure mounting over his future, Postecoglou insisted that he has not lost belief and claimed he is optimistic that his side will turn their poor form around.
'No it doesn't. If you look at the situation we're in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will,' the Spurs boss said on Sunday.
'We'll give ourselves the opportunity to get consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven't lost belief or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they haven't either.'
