Chelsea are criticised for mocking Leeds' relegation on their Twitter account

Chelsea have been criticised for mocking Leeds' relegation to the Championship on their official Twitter account.

During their live coverage of the game between Leeds and Chelsea at Elland Road last August (a match which Leeds won 3-0), Chelsea tweeted 'Starting to assert ourselves!' in the 30th minute before having to mention Leeds goals from Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo in the space of seven minutes.

That led to Leeds' official account writing: 'Life comes as you fast!'.

Chelsea certainly didn't forget that tweet as after Leeds' relegation to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday, they quoted the original tweet by saying 'It certainly does.'

However, many Twitter users were eager to point out that Chelsea were in no position to mock others given that they have endured a terrible campaign themselves.

The Blues finished 12th in the Premier League - the first time they have concluded a campaign in the bottom half of the table since 1995-96. They have been incoherent all season with an excessively large squad and have had a host of managerial changes.

One Arsenal fan wrote: 'Chelsea beefing with relegation teams. Todd Boehly era ladies and gentlemen.'

Another Twitter user wrote: 'Flexing from 12th after spending 600m. shameless.'

A Manchester United fan wrote: 'No way you gone from winning the Champions League to bantering relegated teams'.

One Twitter user added: 'Finish 12th with a squad value of 1 billion and blame other teams who have been relegated Finished 17th in the second half table Have a goal difference of 17-26 Have a transfer balance of - 500 million have some shame be humble'.

Another wrote: 'You just finished bottom half after spending 500 million plus pounds. Hope you go bankrupt. good banter though.'
