Chelsea fans go wild over filthy Zakaria skill and claim £26m deal is a 'steal'

Chelsea fans have hailed the performance of Denis Zakaria against Manchester City - as one piece of skill left them feeling like his £26million buyout option is a steal.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who joined on a season-long loan from Juventus in September, made only his fifth appearance for the club in starting against City.

Although he wasn't on the winning side with Riyad Mahrez scoring the only goal, Zakaria did enough to impress supporters with one piece of skill getting many of the Stamford Bridge faithful on their feet.

Having received the ball in midfield from captain Cesar Azpilicueta, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man played a one-two before evading Ilkay Gundogan and Kalvin Phillips with a dummy and fine piece of control.

Zakaria then dragged the ball around Kevin De Bruyne to recycle possession with Chelsea pushing for an equaliser in the second-half.

One fan said in response: "This was filthy."

A second added: "Zakaria keeps playing like this, that £25m option to buy would be a steal."

A third agreed: "Zakaria has shown more passion and skill in two games than the whole team in this season."

As a fourth concluded: "This was probably Zakaria's best game for us yet. He was everywhere, winning tackles, his passing was accurate, and he showed some glimpses of his dribbling skills."

Following the 1-0 defeat, Graham Potter said of Zakaria with Chelsea having a purchase option for £26m at the end of the season: "I thought he did great.

"I thought the crowd liked his performance. He won the ball back, covered the ground, was brave with the ball, got out of tight situations well.

"Gave everything. It was a positive individual performance."
