Chelsea transfer news: The Blues have a sneaky and unexpected way to persuade Kylian Mbappe to join this summer as PSG prepare to sell their star player.
Chelsea can offer Kylian Mbappe a small extra incentive as they enter the race to sign the Paris Saint-Germain star.
It is a staggering amount of money that no other side can offer Mbappe, not even the mega rich Newcastle or Manchester City if they wanted to get in on the action.
After announcing their pre-season kit numbers ahead of the tour of America this summer, Chelsea have an open list of popular shirts available. After selling or releasing over 10 first team stars there is an abundance of shirt numbers now ready to be taken.
Even with returning loanees set for their own choices, Mbappe would have the chance to become the new No.7 at Stamford Bridge. It was a shirt held by N'Golo Kante since he joined in 2016 but he has already moved to Al-Ittihad and has left the famous number vacant.
Since joining PSG in 2017 Mbappe has worn four different numbers including the No.7 that he is left with now. He has also taken 29, 14 and 17 during his time with the esteemed No.10 jersey being his for France since 2018. Chelsea, who have sold Mateo Kovacic, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mason Mount now have a collection of high profile numbers ready to be taken including No.11 as well.
The No.7 is open though and readily available. Any club that sign Mbappe are ready to make a brand of such a deal, hence the massive pot of money being sent his way in the first place, and just the thought of #KM7 will bring many to their knees. Chelsea, on the off chance that they do sign Mbappe, would also be wary of handing him the much maligned No.9 shirt.
It has a bad history with the club in recent times and the last thing they want is to see him become the next player to be cursed by such a choice.
For now it may yet be a number taken by other new signings with Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Diego Moreira and Angelo Gabriel all posing as potential players to take it on. Should they add Michael Olise or Mohammed Kudus later on in the window too it would be a shirt that certainly holds some weight.
Manchester United have just given their No.7 to Mount, Tottenham's is Son Heung-Min and not likely to be leaving or giving it up anytime soon whilst Al-Hilal themselves already have Salman Al-Faraj as their own No.7 and he is club captain.
