Manchester United supporters have sent former forward Memphis Depay their best wishes for his recovery from a serious injury, and have also asked him to return to Old Trafford.

Following his departure from United in 2017, Memphis has become a key player at Lyon - so much so that he was made captain of the club this season.

However, in just his third game with the armband, he ruptured a cruciate ligament which has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign and almost certainly this summer's European Championship.

Before his injury, Memphis had scored an impressive 14 goals, as well as picked up two assists, in 18 games in all competitions this season.

The Dutchman has been on the sidelines since mid-December and is clearly already longing for a return to the pitch, as he posted a photo on his social media accounts on Monday accompanied with the caption: "I miss playing football."

United fans have rushed to send their messages of support to Memphis and told him they'd love to him get another chance at the club.

Supporters also wished Memphis well on his Instagram post, as one fan said: "And we miss your football as well. Get well and comeback soon," and another echoed the sentiment by saying: "You'll back stronger than ever. Get enough rest, and you'll be ballin' even better in the future."

While others tried to convince him to come back to Manchester, as one fan said: "Come back to Manchester United," and another added: "Always a red!"
