Cristiano Ronaldo's Old Trafford exit 'went unnoticed in Man United dressing room' after Spurs win

Cristiano Ronaldo's early departure from Old Trafford on Wednesday night reportedly went unnoticed in the Manchester United dressing room after their win over Tottenham.

Ronaldo, 37, failed to make it off the bench in the 2-0 victory, with Erik ten Hag instead choosing to bring on 20-year-old forward Anthony Elanga.

It was a decision the five-time Ballon d'Or winner clearly didn't take kindly to, as two minutes later he opted to leave the bench and head for the tunnel earlier than planned.

He did not even return to the dressing room after being snubbed by Ten Hag, instead leaving the stadium altogether before the final whistle had sounded - but his absence is said to have gone under the radar in United's dressing room.

According to The Athletic, Ronaldo's team-mates were too busy celebrating their latest victory over a Big Six rival to notice he had already departed Old Trafford.

Ten Hag still had two substitutions left at the time, having only brought on Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay as well as Elanga.

However, Ronaldo clearly felt he had no part to play in stoppage time and chose to depart Old Trafford rather than congratulate his team-mates on the victory.

The Red Devils boss refused to confirm if Ronaldo had been given permission to leave early after the game, but did insist he would 'deal with' the matter on Thursday.

‘I have seen him, but I didn’t speak to him. I will deal with that tomorrow, not today. We are celebrating this victory,' Ten Hag said.

‘I don’t pay attention today. I will deal with it tomorrow. I want to keep the focus on the team and a magnificent performance from all 11 players and the subs who came on. It was a squad performance.'

Ronaldo has drawn widespread criticism for his actions on Wednesday, including from pundits Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.

Speaking about the incident on Match of the Day, Lineker said: 'We all know what a great player he has been but walking off the pitch as a substitute two minutes before the game has finished...I'm sorry, that is unacceptable. That is poor.'

Richards agreed: 'It is so poor. For someone we have looked up to for so long, one of the greats of the game.

'To do that when your team are winning, making it all about him. It is unacceptable.'
