Former referee Luca Marelli believes Juventus should have been awarded a penalty kick against Lazio last night but criticised Tuttosport over their ‘unacceptable’ headline.

Davide Massa didn’t award a penalty kick to Juventus for a Wesley Hoedt handball causing Juventus directors’ rage.

Each of the three Italian sports papers wrote it was worth a penalty kick for the Old Lady, but Il Corriere dello Sport argued Alex Sandro should have seen red for hitting Juaquin Correa in the first half.

Former Serie A referee Luca Marelli is also convinced Davide Massa should have awarded Juventus a penalty kick for that handball.

“The defender’s arm is out to the side, in an unnatural position,” Marelli said in his YouTube channel.

“This is a clear penalty kick that Massa should have seen on the pitch and I don’t understand why VAR didn’t intervene,” he added.

Tuttosport were pretty harsh on the referee as they slammed him ‘incompetent’ on their front page today.

Criticism is part of the game, but this stuff is unacceptable,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Now we got the insult on the front page. That’s not how you inform people.”
