Emre Can is set to be used as a centre-back by Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri after impressing in the position for Germany.
Allegri has always supported the theory of a role change for Can from midfielder to an aggressive and fast central defender.
Allegri used Can as a third central defender when Juventus beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 in the last-16 of the Champions League last season and was rewarded for his decision as to the German-produced an excellent display.
Can has endured a difficult start to life under Sarri; he was left out of the club's Champions League squad for the group stages and has only played 78 minutes in Serie A so far this season.
Sarri plans to copy Allegri's idea and bring Can back into defence, which is likely to lead to him being included in Juventus' updated Champions League squad in February, if, as expected, they make it through to the knockout stages.
Another factor that could work in Can's favour is the fact that defender Daniele Rugani, who hasn't played at all this season, is tired of sitting on the bench and may ask to leave in January.
