In an interview with TeleRadioStereo, former Inter owner and president Massimo Moratti has shared his delight at seeing Inter back on top of Serie A.
“It is beautiful to see Inter at the back of the table again. They are playing with great confidence and give me great hope that this can continue,” he said.
“Conte has made an enormous contribution, I completely agree. He evaluated all the players and is making the most of his two strikers.
“At the moment Lautaro Martinez is formidable and gives the impression of being a player who is always growing. Last year he had such a pretty good season. He has great potential but no one expected him to explode in the way that he has.”
He was then asked how it feels to see two former Juventus employees in Conte and chief executive Beppe Marotta running the show at Inter.
“I brought in Marcello Lippi as manager when I was in charge. I'm not bothered by this thing because directors and managers are professionals. Conte is doing far more than we could have thought of. The most important thing is that he makes the team win, the rest does not matter.”
He then spoke on Inter's upcoming match with Roma and one player he would sign from them.
“I like Edin Dzeko. He is very strong. He could take the place of either Lautaro or Lukaku from the bench. He is a very serious and very good player. I also like Nicolo Zaniolo.
“Games between Inter and Roma are always beautiful. Roma will have to watch out for Inter. It will be an interesting game to watch.”
He was then asked what he thinks Inter need to do to retain their place at the top.
“Inter must continue to think as Conte thinks, in that they must play every game without thinking about the league standings. The return of injured players like Barella and Sanchez will allow Inter to make changes at the right times to continue in the same way.”
Next he was asked if he would fear coming up against Conte's Inter or Maurizio Sarri's Juventus and why Juventus have been able to dominate in Italy for years.
“Inter can hold up with the ambitions they have with Conte at the helm. It is not so easy for Juventus to do the same, especially after eight consecutive league titles. That said, they have great players and the instinctive habit of winning and that surely helps.
“Juventus are well organised and have bought lots of important players. They did something no one expected by buying Ronaldo. At the same time, both Milanese clubs have went through crisis periods and whilst the others were very good at trying to stop them, Juventus have always been known as a team difficult to beat.”
In conclusion he spoke on San Siro.
“You have seen that I am very sentimental toward San Siro. People say that the new stadium will quadruple the clubs earnings but it takes so much expense to build them.”
