FA Youth Cup 1991-92 Manchester United's champion side - Who were the players and where are they now?

Manchester United U18 side lifted the 2021-22 FA Youth Cup beating Nottingham Forest 3-1 in the final.

The Red Devils are the most successful team in the history of the competition as they have won the tournament 11 times. The last time they won the title was back in the 2010/11 season.

United are followed by Chelsea who have won the title on nine occasions followed by Arsenal who have won it seven times.

Several young players who have won the FA Youth Cup have gone on to become big names in future like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard during the 2010/11 season but the most notable group of players who have won this title are Manchester United's famous 'Class of 92' consisting of players like Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Gary Neville.

As the 'Class of 22' lifted the FA Youth Cup, we take a look at the Manchester United side that won the trophy 30 years back in the 1991-92 season.

Kevin Pilkington - Goalkeeper

The Manchester United academy graduate made his professional debut for the club in 1992 and spent six seasons at the club. Other than the Red Devils, he played for several English lower division clubs like Port Vale, Rochdale, Wigan Athletic and Luton Town. Pilkington retired in 2012.

Post-retirement, he worked as a goalkeeping coach at Ilkeston FC, Notts County and Preston North End. In November 2021, he joined his former club Luton Town as their goalkeeping coach.

John O’Kane - Right-Back

The English defender began his career with the Red Devils in 1993 and played until 1998. In between, he was sent on loan to Wimbledon, Bury and Bradford City. O'Kane ended up making just a handful of appearances for the Red Devils before leaving for Everton in 1998 but lasted less than two years before he joined Bolton. He retired from professional football in 2006 due to kidney problems.

John O'Kane had later revealed that he suffered from autism during his playing career.

Gary Neville - Centre Back

A one-club player, Gary Neville played at Manchester United from 1992 till 2011. After retirement, Neville worked as an assistant coach in the England national team from 2011 to 2016. In December 2015, he was appointed as the manager of La Liga side Valencia but he was sacked from the job in March 2016. He currently works as a football pundit.

Chris Casper - Centre Back

The defender, who captained England U18 side to the UEFA U18 Euro in 1993, made his senior debut for Manchester United in 1993 and played until 1998. He last played for Reading in 2000 before retiring from professional football at the age of 26 due to a double leg fracture he suffered.

After retirement, he managed English lower division clubs like Team Bath, Bradford City, Bury and also worked as a club support manager with the Premier League.

George Switzer - Left-Back

Other than the Red Devils for whom he made his professional debut in 1992, George Switzer played for clubs like Darlington, Hyde United and Salford City. He retired from professional football in 2013.

After retirement, he worked as an optical technician for Dolland & Aitchison at their factory in Salford.

David Beckham - Right Wing

One of the greatest English footballers of all time, David Beckham played at Manchester United for 10 seasons. In between, he was sent on loan for a year at Preston NorthEast. He then joined Real Madrid in 2003 and played there for four seasons. In 2007, he moved to MLS side La Galaxy where he spent the next five seasons of his career. In between, he had two short loan spells at AC Milan in 2009 and 2010. He finally ended his career in 2013 after spending six months at PSG.

Beckham is currently the owner of the MLS franchise Inter Miami. The club made its MLS debut in 2021.

Nicky Butt - Central Midfield

Nicky Butt played the first 12 years of his career at Manchester United before leaving for Newcastle United in 2004. He played the last season of his professional career in Hong Kong, playing for South China and retired in 2011.

After retirement, Butt returned to Manchester United and joined the club as their first-team coach and worked till 2021. He left the job in March 2021.

Simon Davies - Central Midfield

The Welsh midfielder made his professional debut for Manchester United in 1992 and spent five seasons at the club. In between, he spent two seasons on loan from Exeter City and Huddersfield Town. Davies later played for clubs like Luton Town, Rochdale and Chester City. He retired in 2007.

After retirement, he worked as a head coach at Chester City. From 2016 to 2018, he worked as a coach in Manchester City's Elite Development Squad. In 2019, he joined Anderlecht as an assistant to Vincent Kompany but after the Belgian stepped down, he was promoted as the head coach. In February 2020, he parted ways with the Belgian giants.

Ryan Giggs - Left Wing

A one-club man and a legend at Manchester United, Giggs played for the club for 24 years. Ryan Giggs is the most-capped Manchester United player of all time with 936 caps under his belt.

Giggs was appointed as the player-cum-interim manager of Manchester United in the final four matches of the 2013-14 season after David Moyes was sacked. It was also his final season as a professional footballer.

After retirement, he immediately became the assistant manager under Louis van Gaal and remained in that position for the next two seasons.In 2018, Giggs was appointed as the manager of the Wales national team on a four-year-contract. However, due to an ongoing alleged assault case against him, Giggs has not been discharging his duties as Wales manager since April 2021.

He is also the co-owner of League Two side Salford City.

Ben Thornley - Forward

The English forward played for two seasons at Manchester United where he made his professional debut in 1993. He later played for Huddersfield Town, Blackburn, Bury and Salford City. In 2010, Thornley retired from professional football.

He currently works as a commentator in MUTV.

Colin McKee - Forward

After his stint at Manchester United that lasted until 1994, the Scottish forward played for clubs like Kilmarnock, Ross County and Queens Park before retiring in 2001.

He currently works as a maintainance man in a building company and also coaches in Kilmarnock’s academy.

Robbie Savage - Substitute

The Welsh midfielder made his debut for the Red Devils in 1993 and played for just one season. Later he plied his trade with clubs like Leicester City, Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers. He retired from professional football in 2013 but he came out of retirement in 2019 to join Stockport Town in the lower divisions and played for a season. He currently works as the director of football at Macclesfield FC.

He also works as a TV pundit.

Keith Gillespie - Substitute

The Northern Irish winger made his professional debut for Manchester United in 1993 and played for two seasons at the club. In between, he was sent on a brief loan spell to Wigan Athletic. He later played for clubs like Newcastle United, Leicester City and Sheffield United. Gillespie retired in 2013. In 2020, he came back from retirement to sign for FC Mindwell, a Mid-Ulster Football League side which was formed to raise awareness of mental health issues.
