Fans call UK's coverage of Senegal's AFCON opener against Gambia a 'JOKE'

Fans have hit out at the coverage of Senegal's Africa Cup of Nations match against Gambia after broadcast streams on a variety of television outlets cut out on Monday.

Spectators from around the world voiced difficulties watching the match, with commentary not being heard on some streams for nearly 15 minutes of the game, with only noise from the crowd being heard on the broadcast.

It subsequently came back on again but it wasn't long after that various streams, from broadcasters including Sky Sports and Super Sport both went down.

Sky cut to a screen that read, 'We are really sorry for this temporary fault.'

Meanwhile, Super Sport's broadcast showed a screen that said, 'We apologise for the loss of pictures, our engineers are working on it.'

Sky Sports remained on the holding screen for some time before cutting to Sky Sports news.

Presenter Vicky Gomersall subsequently gave an update on the match, before stating: 'We are having a few technical issues with this game but we'll get it back to you as soon as we can.'

Sky Sports, who are showing every fixture from the tournament, had also displayed an apology in the early stages of the match amid the sound difficulties.

It read: 'We are sorry about the sound problems.'

Coverage still hadn't returned at half-time, with Ebou Adams being sent off in the eighth minute of injury time in the first half.

It seems there had been a worldwide outage on the coverage as the game continued, but fans took to X to criticise the coverage.

'No commentary Afcon is a joke,' one wrote.

'Some issues with the television feed for Senegal v Gambia match in the AFCON. Sky Sports coverage in UK has been down since at least the start of second half,' said another.

'What's going on with AFCON today? No commentary on Sky and the national anthems just abruptly cut out for both teams?' another said.

'So poor that the afcon coverage has no commentary.'
