Fiorentina coach Italiano praises players after Roma defeat

Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano was left frustrated after defeat to Roma.

Dodo saw red on 25 minutes in the 2-0 reverse.

Italiano said: “I leave here with real disappointment, especially for the fans who made the journey, because the red card ruined what was potentially a very entertaining game.

“I can only thank my players for their efforts, as we kept it alive to the end, but you cannot play 75 minutes with a man down. A hasty decision ruined the game."

Italiano says Sofyan Amrabat and Nico Gonzalez will be staying.

“Amrabat returned from the World Cup in bad shape, so we had to look after him for a couple of weeks and get him slowly back into the team. He has improved so much, he has this great character and confidence, so he chases everyone down to steal the ball. Now he is also learning how to work in possession too," explained Italiano.

“Gonzalez has characteristics that the others in the squad do not have, so being without him for such a long time due to injury this season really penalised us.

“He can attack the penalty area and is good in the air. He's still getting back into shape and obviously the team being down to 10 men didn't help him today. Gonzalez can also play as a centre-forward, if needed."
