Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz and chief executive Bruno Spindel have both admitted that they remain confident that they can bring Gabriel 'Gabigol' Barbosa to the club on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old striker spent 2019 on loan with the Rio de Janeiro based club who want him to return after he helped fire them to a memorable double as they won the Brazilian league title and Copa Libertadores.

Speaking to Brazilian news outlet O Globo, Braz explained: “Last year we worked things out in January. We waited then and that was before we had won anything but now we have won, we can wait a little longer. We showed that we have patience as evidenced by the deals for Rafinha and Filipe Luis.

Spindel added: “A decision must be reached between Flamengo, Inter and the player. There are specific details required for us to reach an agreement. We must be calm. Our goal is to sign Gabigol and if we do not succeed, we will look for an alternative.”
