Gasperini on Man City clash: It's more fun when you've got nothing to lose

Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is looking forward to Manchester City in the Champions League. “It’s more fun when you’ve got nothing to lose.”

The Orobici are in their first ever edition of the tournament and lost the opening two games to Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk, but visit the Premier League title holders next week.

“Manchester City are certainly capable of winning the Champions League, but when you play against the best, you’ve got nothing to lose and that makes it more fun,” Gasp told young fans at a special event.

Atalanta finished third in Serie A last season and are in the same position so far this term.

“I don’t think it’s a dream, because we’ve been getting good results for a few years now and that building enthusiasm helps us to do better and better. We have a wonderful squad.

“Now we’ve got a tough run of games coming up, with Lazio, Napoli and Sampdoria away, twice Manchester City, plus Cagliari and Udinese at home.”

Atalanta also have reason to celebrate because they have unveiled the newly-restructured Gewiss Stadium, although work on the other sections will continue next year.

“It’s the best thing to see the fans celebrate a goal. We are fortunate, in that we score a lot of goals, so it’s something we get to experience often. The new ‘curva’ in the stadium is a work of art and seeing Robin Gosens score the first goal under that section was emotional.”
