Getafe's Champions League dream shows no sign of slowing down

Unlike last weekend, Getafe were able to capitalise on Sevilla's slip-up by beating Girona 2-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday morning as their Champions League dream feels closer than ever with just two games to go.

The hosts opened the scoring through Jorge Molina in the 16th minute, his 13th goal of the season in LaLiga Santander. Bernardo Espinosa's stray pass was intercepted by Dimitri Foulquier and the Frenchman then played a ball which put Molina through on goal. The 37-year-old showed his composure as he fired across Bono in the Girona goal.

Los Azulones had Nacho Fernandez on the bench as Pepe Bordalas was facing the first of a two-game ban after being sent off at Real Sociedad last weekend, and Getafe's substitution in the 61st minute altered the final course of the match.

They were aided by Girona being reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute as Borja Garcia was given a straight red for his comments to referee Alejandro Hernandez Hernandez.

Angel Rodriguez sealed Getafe's victory in the 77th minute after some exceptional work by Bruno Gonzalez. The centre-back won back the ball 30 yards from his own goal, played a pass and continued his run, before receiving the ball back and pulling the ball back for Angel. The 32-year-old then drove to his right before finishing in the bottom left corner.

Getafe's Champions League aspirations are alive, with a three-point advantage over fifth-placed Sevilla, while Girona are still in the midst of a battle against relegation and could drop into the bottom three if Real Valladolid beat Athletic Club on Sunday evening.
