World Cup winner Mario Gotze has revealed that his dream is to play alongside Lionel Messi for Barcelona.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder, currently playing with Dutch side PSV, explained that he wants to play in the Champions League again after leaving Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in October 2020.
And the playmaker has hit the ground running in the Eredivisie with five goals and five assists from 17 eague matches.
But it hasn't always been straight forward for the German. Gotze has struggled with injuries and suffered from a metabolic illness that has seen his career decline since he scored the 2014 World Cup winning goal.
The 28-year-old still has the fire in his belly to return to the pinnacle of European football and revealed his goal to make it to the Nou Camp and play with six-time Balon d'Or winner Lionel Messi.
'To celebrate possession football with this [Barca] team, alongside Lionel Messi, that would be a dream,' Gotze told 11Freunde.
'I want to play the Champions League again.'
The German did however explain that he is ready to commit his future to PSV beyond his current contract that runs out in 2022, but insists he will only do so if head coach Roger Schmidt stays.
'If Roger wanted to leave, I would worry,' he said. 'We have agreed with PSV that we will sit down on an extraordinary offer.'
