Guti began playing for Real Madrid's youth team in 1986 when he was 10 years old and in 1995, he made his first-team debut. During his career, he played almost exclusively for Real Madrid – appearing in 542 official games and serving as vice-captain. In 2010, Guti left Real Madrid for Beşiktaş. On 5 Nov 2019, Almeria announced Guti as their new coach with a tweet: 'A certain No.14 is flying in'!
