The future of reigning World Cup champion Lionel Messi could be decided today, with David Beckham's Inter Miami seemingly the front runners for his signature.

According to L'Equipe, the South Florida-based club is 'on pole' for Messi's signature after the Argentine received formal offers from Saudi Arabia.

There has also been a flirtation with a move back to Barcelona, which Jorge Messi has indicated would be the preferred destination.

However, considering the Catalan club's financial instability, it's not currently clear how a move to bring back their all-time leading scorer would come to fruition.

In regards to a formal Saudi Arabia deal, L'Equipe says that Messi and his wife Antonella Roccuzzo 'don't see themselves settling with their three boys in the Gulf desert.'

As for the timeline of when a decision would be announced, Jorge Messi said on Monday that his son's choice would be made public by Wednesday at the latest.

When it comes to Barcelona, Antonella and Leo still remain interested in returning to the Spanish city.

But L'Equipe says that a 'persistent mistrust' of Barca president Joan Laporta is at least one of the reasons why it's not possible.

The offer to move to Saudi Arabia comes at a time where the Public Investment Fund of the country has started to throw wild sums of money around to attract older top European footballers.

Just earlier this week, it was announced that Al-Ittihad would sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as Chelsea's N'Golo Kante is closing in on a transfer to the desert kingdom as well.
