AC MILAN need a miracle to reach the final, in their Champions League semi-final tie against Italian rivals Inter Milan.
Goals from former Premier League stars Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan gave Filippo Inzaghi's side a 2-0 advantage in the first leg.
The Rossoneri still believe they can reach the Champions League final, held at the same ground where Liverpool pulled off their own miracle in 2005, haunting Milan forever as they came from 3-0 down to win.
Few scars are as deep for Milan as that final 18 years ago, but last week's first-leg defeat to Inter, their first ever loss to their rivals in European competition, would have hurt.
It leaves them facing a monumental challenge to reach a first final since 2007, but one they still believe is possible.
Manager Stefano Pioli said: "If you play sport at a certain level you know that matches never end until they are over.
"There are miracles and we need to believe in those miracles."
Inter lead 2-0 going into tonight's second-leg, which is a 'home' tie for the Nerazzurri at San Siro meaning they will have far greater support.
Milan's fans put on a spectacular show last week but their side were overawed by the occasion and blown away with Dzeko and Mkhitaryan scoring inside 11 minutes.
Pioli's side never recovered and have now lost three of four Milan derbies played so far this season, while they also lost 2-0 to relegation battling Spezia at the weekend having made just four changes from last Wednesday.
Having won just four of their last 15 games in all competitions, Milan are very much the underdogs.
However it is a position Pioli is comfortable with.
He said: "We have an important goal in mind - to win the game and to qualify for the final, which nobody would have predicted, just as at the beginning of the year no one would have predicted our presence in the semi-finals.
"We know we are starting with a disadvantage, but we also have the quality to overturn it.
"Now more than ever, nobody thinks Milan can reach the final.
"I know we can play a great game and I know how strong my players are. We've made some mistakes, but the past is irrelevant."
If they are in need of inspiration for miracles, Milan only need look to striker Divock Origi, who scored twice as Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 to reach the 2019 final having lost the first leg 3-0 at Camp Nou.
But Milan captain Sandro Tonali, a boyhood fan, says his teammates should need no inspiration.
He said: "If they wear this shirt they know what they need to do.
"They have to be proud, do their utmost if they want to be happy. I don't need to talk to anybody because they know what is needed.
"We need to leave pressure aside and focus on this single game that we have to play. We know that we have a good chance to turn upside down the result of the first leg so we need to push."
Veteran Dzeko is expected to lead the line again for Inter despite Romelu Lukaku scoring twice in Saturday's win over Sassuolo.
Inzaghi said: "Three games a week at the moment I don't know if he can handle them and I don't know if he can give us quality in two fundamental matches for us."
The two sides were in league action on the weekend as the race for a Champions League spot heats up in Serie A.
Inter increased the gap on AC Milan in 5th to six points as they beat Sassuolo 4-2 at the San Siro.
Elsewhere, Stefano Pioli's side were on the end of a shock 2-0 defeat to relegation-battling Spezia.
