Inter legend: Inter should focus on UEL, they are already in Serie A top 4

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi discussed what Inter should do once the season continues after the seriousness of the Coronavirus emergency has lowered in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia yesterday.

“Right now, Inter are six points behind Juve, let's say seven as Inter lose the head to head. Against Ludogorets there were several changes, but the round with Getafe has to be faced with the best team.”

The 56-year-old Italian then discussed the strengths of the Spanish side and their similarity to Atletico Madrid, who recently knocked out holding European champions Liverpool.

“The Spanish team is a strong one, similar to Atletico Madrid. They have an ugly, dirty and evil coach inspired by Simeone.”

Bergomi then highlighted how, if he was Inter, he would focus on the Europa League instead of the domestic league.

“If I were Inter, I'd concentrate on the Europa League, even if there are other strong teams. If I had to make a rotation, I'd do it in the league, because they're one of the top four. In the Europa League I'd play with the best squad.”

Finally, Bergomi spoke about Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen and his struggles adapting to coach Antonio Conte's tactical system.

“Capello said he should be played as a regista, but personally I think it's difficult, despite having the quality to do this. He doesn't strike me as a player who likes pressure and there you are in a hot zone. I think to make the most of him in Conte's 3-5-2 is difficult, maybe it's time to change something tactically, maybe a change to push him free behind the strikers, get to the final third and make the play. Right now, finding a place for Eriksen in Conte's 3-5-2 becomes difficult.”

Inter are currently third in the league table, sitting eight points behind second place Lazio and nine points behind rivals and league leaders Juventus, although both of those teams have played one more game than the Nerazzurri as Inter's game against Sampdoria was also postponed.
