Inter now prepared to keep Icardi but striker eyes Atletico

Inter Milan's ongoing situation with striker Mauro Icardi appears to have taken another turn, with the Italian having mellowed only their stance only for the Argentine to eye a move to Atletico Madrid.

Inter had told Icardi he had no future at the San Siro and was able to leave this summer, though reports in Italy now claim boss Antonio Conte is willing to sanction a new deal and send the former captain out on loan.

Icardi however is now favouring a move to Atletico Madrid in Spain and play under his compatriot Diego Simeone, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, meaning his farewell has edged a little closer.

Inter are willing to sanction the deal after completing the loan signing of Alexis Sanchez from Manchester United, though it leaves fellow Serie A side Napoli with a late change of plans.

Carlo Ancelotti's side had been waiting on the outcome of a meeting between Icardi and Inter chiefs, in hope of persuading the player to move to the Stadio San Paolo.

A potential Icardi move to Atletico however could still have implications for Napoli, who will ask the Spanish side if they can take Diego Costa on loan for the season, Gazzetta Dello Sport add.
