Arturo Vidal is under investigation for reportedly flouting Chile's Covid-19 protocols after he reportedly visited a racetrack and recorded an advert before testing positive for the virus.
The Inter Milan midfielder was given a sporting exemption from a 10-day quarantine after arriving for international duty but was told he should only see close family.
But Argentina newspaper Clarin claim Vidal, who tested positive for the virus earlier this week, broke the rules on a number of occasions and then took over four hours to inform the Chilean Federation of his positive test.
According to the report, Vidal went for dinner with friends, visited a racetrack, recorded an advert, went to lunch and then paid a visit to the second division club that he part-owns.
They also claim the 34-year-old spent time with a model in a hotel room before joining up with his international team-mates.
The undersecretary of health for Chile, Paula Daza, has said Vidal is the subject of an investigation for ‘violating the health bubble', with the midfielder facing a £57,000 fine if he is found guilty.
Vidal tested positive after being initially hospitalised with severe tonsillitis.
Chile confirmed Vidal was recovering in hospital on Tuesday and had been isolated from his team-mates for 72 hours.
He will miss Thursday's World Cup qualifier with Argentina and could also be a doubt for the fixture against Bolivia on June 9.
The midfielder confirmed on social media that he had been given a Covid-19 vaccine on Friday, before he later tested positive.
Vidal posted a picture of him receiving the vaccine on Instagram alongside the caption: 'Happy with the vaccine !!!
'Now we are better for the next challenges with @laroja.
'To take care of each other and to get vaccinated.'
Infection rates in Chile remain high with over 6,000 daily cases reported.
The midfielder enjoyed a successful debut season with Inter, helping the club win the Serie A title for the first time since 2010.
Vidal played 23 league games before missing the end of the season with a knee injury but had returned to fitness in time to join up with his national team.
Chile are currently sixth in the CONMEBOL qualifying standings after two defeats, one draw and one victory in their four matches.
