Inzaghi feels Lazio 'dominated the game and deserved to go through' vs Napoli

Simone Inzaghi felt Lazio “dominated the game and deserved to go through” against Napoli, but the Coppa Italia quarter-final changed with Lucas Leiva’s dismissal.

The trophy holders crashed out at the quarter-final stage with a 1-0 defeat at the Stadio San Paolo, but the game was dominated by the referee.

After Lorenzo Insigne’s goal in the opening 90 seconds, Ciro Immobile slipped to miss a penalty, both Elseid Hysaj and Lucas Leiva were sent off, all by the 25th minute.

“I think Lucas was wrong to react the way he did, but the first error was from the referee. Lucas got the ball and yet not only was a foul given against him, he was booked too,” Inzaghi told Rai Sport.

“The referee got it wrong, but then obviously Lucas is an experienced player and should not have behaved like that. You could see from 20 metres away that Leiva got the ball, but he lost his head and that was unusual, he’s not the type.

“It’s really disappointing to lose a game that Lazio dominated almost completely. It’s sad to go out of the Coppa Italia, but Lazio played the way we needed to, deserved to go through more, but that’s football.

“We must learn from these nights when the ball just doesn’t want to go in.”
