A report in today's print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport has highlighted that should the Serie A title not be assigned this season, it would not be the first time in history.
The Italian football federation (FIGC) met for crisis talks yesterday in a bid to try and work out how they can deal with things.
An Italian government decree means all sporting events, including Serie A football, are banned until at least April 3 and this has cast serious doubt over the remainder of the Serie A season.
A few ideas were suggested during the meeting once of which being just ending the season as is but not assigning the title to any team.
The first case was in 1915. World war one disrupted that campaign and the title remained unassigned for years. It was later assigned to Genoa although it is disputed when this actually occurred.
In 1927 Torino won the title but later had it revoked and league officials opted not to reward the title to another team.
More recently speaking, in 2004/05, the Serie A title went unassigned due to the Calciopoli scandal.
