A major supermarket chain in Italy has come under fire after one of its stores were caught selling ‘Rubentus’ goods.

The Conad supermarket in the Sardinian town of Oristiano was found selling Easter cakes with the inscription ‘Rubentus’ – a derogatory nickname for Juventus.

“Without a doubt, this thoughtlessness has not only damaged the company’s image but also that of Juventus,” store manager Antonio Contu told La Stampa.

“The lad who committed this nonsense is a good worker. He’d only been hired for a few months.

“In the next few hours he’ll be questioned, but it’s the company that will decide what action is taken.”

‘Rubentus’ is a portmanteau of Juventus and the word ‘rubare’, which translates into ‘steal’ in English.
