Jose Mourinho aims dig at Lazio as he claims he knew Roma would beat them before the match started

Jose Mourinho has claimed that he knew his Roma side would beat Lazio before a ball was even kicked on Sunday.

The two teams were separated by just a single point heading into the derby clash at the Stadio Olimpico, but it was Roma who dominated the contest as a brace from Tammy Abraham and a Lorenzo Pellegrini free-kick wrapped up a comfortable 3-0 win.

After the match, Mourinho took to Instagram and insisted he never doubted that Roma would come out on top.

Alongside two photos of himself smiling from before and after the game, Mourinho wrote: 'When you know that you win before the match, the bus picture and the dressing room picture are very similar.'

His words were followed by a series of yellow and red love hearts - the colours of the Roma kit.

Mourinho's comments somewhat contradict what he said earlier in the week, when he complained about Roma's lack of preparation time ahead of the crucial fixture.

The Serie A club played Vitesse in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, and needed a late goal from Abraham to secure their place in the next round.

Mourinho subsequently raised concerns about Roma having to play again three days later, while joking that the Lazio squad were 'at home smoking' with their manager Maurizio Sarri as they had a full week to train for the game.

However, he managed to get the necessary reaction from his team as they outplayed Lazio to exact revenge after losing the reverse fixture 3-2 in September.

Roma have now leapfrogged their cross-city rivals in the table to move up to sixth place, level on points with Atalanta.

They are still eight points adrift of the top four, though, with eight games remaining.
