Juventus are said to be monitoring the progress of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

The 22-year-old is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Germany, after scoring 13 goals and providing seven assists in the Bundesliga last season.

According to Calciomercato, Werner has been identified by Juventus as a strong candidate to be Mario Mandzukic's eventual replacement.

Mandzukic signed a new contract extension in Turin last year and his deal runs until 2020.

But with the Croatian ace now 32, Juve are understood to be planning for the long-term future.

After netting three times in six games for finalists Croatia at the World Cup, Mandzukic has scored twice in his first three Serie A matches this season.

That is already 40 per cent of the tally he achieved last term when he only struck five goals in 32 Serie A games.

Werner was linked with interest from Real Madrid in the summer but made it clear he was happy in Leipzig.
