Atletico Madrid face an availability crisis in attack ahead of their LaLiga Santander fixture with Celta Vigo and, as a result of Diego Costa's suspension, Nikola Kalinic is likely to be handed his chance to start.
Alvaro Morata was unable to train with the rest of the group on Wednesday morning as a result of an ankle sprain, whilst Costa is awaiting to hear the length of his ban for a foul-mouthed tirade at the match official in Saturday's defeat to Barcelona.
Antoine Griezmann is expected to start up front with Kalinic against Celta, and Diego Simeone worked on such a pairing during training on Wednesday.
The Croatian's last start came five matches ago against Leganes at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano, however he has failed to score since December 15, when he netted against Real Valladolid.
Kalinic hasn't found life easy in the Spanish capital, despite being signed as a priority recruit in the summer.
He has failed to ever truly hit form, although it would be easy to argue that he's never been given much of an opportunity to do so, playing as third choice behind Griezmann and Costa.
In 23 matches he has scored just four times, and this is certainly a poor return for a player who cost more than 14 million euros.
