Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has admitted he is struggling to profile Joao Felix right now.
He told Sky Sports that neither he nor the player really no where his best position on the pitch is.
Felix has seen his minutes decrease drastically since the interim boss came in, after he was almost undroppable during Graham Potter's tenure at the club.
He was notably dropped for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, when the Blues needed at least two goals to keep the tie alive.
Instead, Lampard elected to start just one recognised attacker in Kai Havertz, with him flanked by N'golo Kante and Conor Gallagher.
Despite the change of system for last night's game, there was again no room in the starting side for the Portugal international, nor did he appear off the bench.
Felix doesn't know his best position
This is despite Hakim Ziyech making an appearance for the final few moments, with all the expectations being that he will be on the move at the end of the season.
Lampard has hinted that his lack of minutes may be as a result of neither of them knowing exactly where the 23-year-old should feature when he does play.
He said before the game: “He has a huge talent, what he can do around the box. I really need to find a clear structure, off the ball idea for how we work. That's a challenge for Joao. He's not definite if you ask him where he wants to play.
“Maybe he's not a 9, I need a 9 for the way I want to play. Whatever his future is, I don't know that.”
With reports stating that the club are keen for Felix to be part of their squad next season, he will be hoping for more opportunities to prove himself to whoever will be in charge then.
