Lazio 'make Lucas Torreira their main transfer target'

Lazio have made former Arsenal man Lucas Torreira their primary transfer target, according to a report.

The Italian side are looking to strengthen their squad after qualifying for next season's Champions League, and see Torreira as the man to help start that build.

He would seemingly come at a cut price, too. According to Football Italia, the midfielder would cost just over £8.5million to make the move from Galatasaray back to Italy.

A four-year contract is on the table, with representatives set to meet the player's agent in the next few days to discuss a deal.

It's thought Galatasaray, who have just won the Turkish Super Lig, wouldn't stand in the way of any potential move for the 27-year-old.

Torreira first made a global name for himself when he joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in 2018 for £26.4million.

Despite a positive start to life in north London, he soon fell down the pecking order and joined Atletico Madrid on loan for the 2020/21 season after making 89 appearances for the side.

After his short stay in Spain, he moved to Fiorentina on loan the year after before leaving Arsenal permanently for Turkey in 2022.

Arsenal sold the Uruguay international for just £5.5million, meaning they ended up suffering a significant loss on the deal.

Meanwhile, Lazio are reportedly also monitoring Hellas Verona forward Cyril Ngonge.

The Belgian only moved to the league in January but netted five times in 15 games in all competitions as his side avoided relegation on goal difference.

He'd previously played for Groningen in the Netherlands before earning his move to Italy with a string of impressive performances.

Lazio will be looking to compete again in Serie A next season under Maurizio Sarri after finishing second in the league table last term.
