Liverpool 7-0 Man United: Erik ten Hag's side are ripped to SHREDS at Anfield

Liverpool produced their best performance of the season against their fierce rivals as Jurgen Klopp's side thrashed Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield.

Liverpool, as expected in front of a raucous Anfield crowd, dominated the opening passages of play with Mohammed Salah threatening to unlock a United defence that had previously managed back-to-back Premier League clean sheets.

The Premier League's most in-form attacker Marcus Rashford was largely muted throughout the first-half, with Bruno Fernandes wasting his side's best chance of the half as he steered his header wide in the 26th minute.

From there it was all Liverpool as Man United unravelled and for the first time in a long time looked like the same bunch of individuals that were trounced twice by Jurgen Klopp's side last season.

Man United manager Erik ten Hag has been revered for his disciplined half-time team talks but was unable to inspire a similar comeback performance as Darwin Nunez doubled Liverpool's lead after getting on the end of Harvey Elliot's powerful cross in the 47th minute.

That was just the start for Liverpool who for all their difficulties this season showed they were still the real test for a Man United side who came into this game as favourites.

Gakpo bagged his second after rounding off a terrific counter-attack that saw him meet Salah's low cross with a delightful dinked chip over David de Gea.

The Egyptian then turned into Liverpool's next goalscorer as another counter-attack tormented United's defence and ended with Salah smashing his shot in off the crossbar.

Nunez made it 5-0 as he scored his second header of the match before Salah added a sixth in the 83rd minute and Roberto Firmino a late seventh to round off a truly terrific Liverpool display and an absolutely dreadful Man United performance.
