Man United players remain silent on social media following Mourinho's departure

Manchester United players have remained silent on social media following Jose Mourinho's departure from Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager was given the axe on Tuesday morning after a disastrous first half to the Premier League season.

Mourinho won the League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield in his first season at the helm.

No United player has thanked their former boss on social media for his efforts during his two and a half years in charge.

Midfielders Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera did like Instagram posts which thanked the 55-year-old.

Lingard liked a post which read: 'Thank you Jose for all the trophies and your time. Time for new change.'

While United goalkeeping coach Emilio Alvarez wrote: 'Thank you Jose Mourinho, my best wishes and success,' which Herrera liked.

Paul Pogba faced a backlash earlier in the day led by former United defender Gary Neville after reacting to Mourinho's sacking with a controversial post - which he then deleted 10 minutes later.

Shortly after Mourinho was axed, Pogba uploaded a photo to Instagram in which he has a cheeky grin on his face, and captioned the post: 'Caption this!'.

The 25-year-old deleted the post 10 minutes later after over 64,000 people had liked it.
