Nainggolan admits he could even have stayed in Roma

Radja Nainggolan admits leaving Roma was “a decision made by someone who is no longer there, so I could even have stayed,” referring clearly to Monchi.

The midfielder never disguised the belief he was pushed out of the club by director of sport Monchi, who quit the day after Coach Eusebio Di Francesco was fired in March.

Nainggolan had already joined Inter, which lasted just one season before he was loaned to Cagliari.

“I split with Roma and that was a very heavy blow to get over,” the Belgian told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am sure that I was to blame too, but it was more than anything else a decision made by someone who is no longer there. I could even have stayed…

“Those are choices that you make in those moments and they can only become a futile regret that changes nothing.

“I am happy with my career and my decisions, but I hope to achieve even more satisfying moments, because I am still hungry.”
