The 25-year-old midfielder joined the Soanish club as a free agent and says that he hopes to adapt quickly in his first European experience.

Orbelín Pineda is the first Mexican international to join a European club during the January window. He joined Celta Vigo as a free agent. The 25-year-old midfielder decided not to renew his contract with Cruz Azul after three years and start his European adventure.

Orbelín has arrived in Spain

The Mexican international was interviewed by TUDN as he was arriving in Spain and he hopes to adapt quickly to his new team. “Now I am in another country and experiencing a new culture. I hope I can adapt as quickly as possible and life is about new experiences and enjoying them,” he said.

Celta Vigo has to open a non-EU player slot so that Orbelín Pineda can be eligible to play and hopefully make his debut in LaLiga this month. Currently Renato Tapia, Franco Cervi and Thiago Galhardo are the three non-EU players that have been included in each matchday since the beginning of the campaign.

In LaLiga each club is allowed five non-EU players, but only three can be included in each matchday. Celta will be able to sign Orbelín Pineda because his compatriot Néstor Araujo has been in Spain long enough that he was able to obtain citizenship.
