Paulo Sousa: Ready for Serie A return

Paulo Sousa claims he would have won trophies if Fiorentina did not sell Stefan Savic or Joaquin and that ‘I’ll get back to winning what I won as a player’ at the right club.

Sousa won Champions Leagues with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund as a player and has lifted titles in Hungary, Israel and Switzerland as a Coach, but the Portuguese failed to replicate that in two years at Fiorentina.

Nonetheless, the 48-year-old – who has been heavily linked with Roma – says he is ready to return to Italy and preferably ‘at a team where you fight to win trophies’.

“The Fiorentina experience was the most important of my coaching career,” he told Record.

“Florence is a wonderful city and the club has very passionate fans. I owe a lot to them. In those two years in Italy, I became a better Coach and a better man.

“Did Fiorentina earn €140m from sales? That was one of the highlights of my work at the club.

“I never said it publicly, but I think if we’d kept Savic and Joaquin, I would’ve won some trophies with them.

“I’d like to go back to coaching in Italy, but at a team where you fight to win trophies. I feel more prepared now and I know that with an ambitious project, I’ll be able to get back to winning what I won as a player.”
