Politano unlikely to 'join Atalanta in January because it's too costly'

Matteo Politano is unlikely to join Atalanta in January because a deal for the Inter forward would be too costly, according to a report in Libero.

The former Sassuolo man is struggling for game time under Antonio Conte and was mooted as a possible makeweight in negotiations for Dejan Kulusevski, before the Swedish winger joined Juventus.

Roma, Fiorentina and Napoli are all following the 26-year-old but none have managed to reach an agreement with Inter.

“Politano would have been ideal as back-up to Papu Gomez and Josip Ilicic, but the cost of the deal between his transfer fee and wages have discouraged Atalanta from the move,” Libero claimed this morning.

Inter are prepared to sell Politano this month if an 'important offer' arrives, although the paper did not indicate how much the Nerazzurri wanted.

Atalanta have turned their attention to Juventus forward Marko Pjaca and Sampdoria's Gianluca Caprari, who used to belong to Inter, with both players likely to cost less.
