Chelsea face an absolute must-win game on Saturday afternoon with Premier League strugglers Leeds United travelling to Stamford Bridge
The term 'must-win' has been used countless times for Chelsea over the last few weeks, but with each passing game, the need for three points becomes more and more evident.
"It's part of the job. We were talking before the game about watching the 'Arsenal: All or Nothing' and two years into Mikel [Arteta's] reign he is close to getting the sack and people want him out. It was seen as a disaster but things have now changed a bit.
"If you look at Jurgen [Klopp's] situation, they haven't got the results and all of a sudden people want him out. That is the nature of football. I haven't done enough at this club to have too much good faith; I also accept that.
"My job isn't to worry about that too much. I understand the question and where it comes from, but I have to try to focus on keeping on helping the team and supporting the players. I really like these players, they're good lads. They want to do better and want to win, but at the moment we're suffering and that is my responsibility."
Potter's side are currently 10th in the Premier League table and the chance of getting into this season's top four – something they are now 14 points adrift of – look very slim. So winning the Champions League might be the Blues' best opportunity to get back into the competition next season. If they were to crash out of the tournament at the hands of Dortmund, where would that leave Potter?
First up, though, is Leeds, who are battling for their lives at the bottom of the league. The Whites are currently in 17th, just a single point above Everton, who occupy 18th. The Yorkshire club recently parted company with Jesse Marsch and appointed former Watford boss Javi Gracia as his successor.
"I think it's important to start very aggressive, to continue very aggressively, and then to finish even more aggressively," Gracia told reporters on Thursday. "To go to Stamford Bridge is always very, very tough but I have that experience.
"Especially with the necessity now that they have to get their points. We have to be very, very focused and prepared for a demanding game."
"What you have to do is try to finish well," he added. "It's true we have a young team and we have to improve. The only way you can improve is having more chances and live that experience. We have to improve because we need the goals.
"In the last game, we had 16 shots, 12 of them were inside the box. The other team with only six and three in the box but scored two goals. The stats are clear, but football is not stats.
"You have to improve the chances you have and it's something we have to work on. It depends on us. They are good students. They learn very fast. Not only good players, but they have a good attitude. They have commitment and I believe in these players."
Gracia was also asked about the situation at Chelsea and the pressure Potter is under right now. The Leeds boss was very supportive of the former Brighton head coach and described him as "fantastic" at what he does.
"The only way you change the different opinions about you is with results, it's the only way," Gracia said on Potter. "What I can say is my opinion about Graham Potter and my opinion is fantastic. I wish all the best for all the management, of course the next game we try to win."
