Last season Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe shared the Golden Boot in the Champions League - and both men are in the hunt again.
The man who tops the goalscoring charts often requires their team to go deep into the tournament and a host of the big hitters will return over the coming days. Currently Borussia Dortmund's frontman Serhou Guirassy leads the way as the only man in double figures.
The new format in the tournament means that some teams have played two extra games to date after having to negotiate the knockout phase play-offs. Whilst not ideal for teams, it has certainly helped certain individuals up their goal tallies.
Kylian Mbappe, eyeing his first ever Champions League now he's at Real Madrid, scored four times in two games against Manchester City. That has helped bring him back into the race.
Across Tuesday and Wednesday every team will feature which presents the most prolific players in the tournament with a chance to add to their tally. Scooping the Golden Boot in Europe's top competition allows player to join a list that features illustrious company.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominated the award for a decade but the likes of Erling Haaland, Robert Lewandowski, Kaka and Andriy Shevchenko have all scooped it in the past.
We take a look at how the runners and riders are looking heading into the knockout stages.
1. Serhou Guirassy - 10 goals
The Guinean has been a big hit with the German side having joined them in the summer from Stuttgart. He's already smashed the 20-goal mark in all competitions despite Dortmund struggling. He scored at Sporting Lisbon as the Germans saw them off in the play-off round but did also find the net in six of his side's eight group games.
The issue for Guirassy may be how long he remains in the tournament. His side face Lille in the last 16 but then have the prospect of a quarter-final against Barcelona, which would require a massive effort if they were to repeat last year's run to the final.
2. Robert Lewandowski - 9 goals
The Pole is a former winner of the Golden Boot and the Champions League and now wants to do that again with Barcelona. Since the tournament re-formatted only Ronaldo has been top scorer and a winner with two separate clubs but the Catalans are among the favourites. They face Benfica in the last 16 - whom Lewandowski scored twice against in their meeting earlier this season - and he is not short for service in a star-studded Barcelona side.
3. Raphinha - 8 goals
Lewandowski's team-mate has also been in sensational form, scoring more goals than many perhaps expected. His highlight was without a doubt his hat-trick that saw off Bayern Munich several months back.
He's continued to come up with big goals though, scoring in stoppage time as Barcelona beat Benfica 5-4. The Brazilian winger has been deadly cutting in off his wing and Barcelona are on the perceived easier half of the draw with another clash against the Portuguese side to come.
3. Erling Haaland - 8 goals
One man who won't be adding to his tally is City's No 9. He was left on the bench as the English side were dumped out of the tournament in the Spanish capital but the Norwegian has pedigree with this award and will likely be in the hunt again. Haaland has won it whilst in Manchester and at Dortmund and helped Pep Guardiola's men scrape through the league phase.
5. Harry Kane - 7 goals
The Englishman claimed this award last year in his debut season with Bayern Munich and he will hope that firepower continues when the Bavarians taken on Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen, which will be no easy task. Kane is the highest scoring Englishman is the tournament's history and scored four of his seven goals in a 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb. He also netted against Celtic in the play-off round with Inter Milan likely to be their last eight opponents if they advance.
5. Kylian Mbappe - 7 goals
He shared the Golden Boot with Kane last term and looks to have clicked into gear with Real after a slow start. The ex-PSG man showed what a devastating finisher he can be against City, scoring a hat-trick with a variety of different finishes.
He, like Los Blancos, was slow to get going in Europe but now looks primed as they prepare to take on the dogged defence of Atletico Madrid with a potential semi-final to come against Liverpool. His haul of goals against the Manchester outfit has helped him out massively in the goals race.
5. Vinicius Jnr - 7 goals
Before Mbappe arrived he was perhaps the most electrifying player in Madrid's ranks and he's shown he's still as prolific as ever. Vinicius scored in last season's final success and the Brazilian has continued to come up with big goals, scoring a hat-trick to see off Dortmund and then in Italy as the defending champions beat Atalanta. Atletico will now look to stifle him in the final third.
5. Vangelis Pavlidis - 7 goals
The Greek international scored twice at Wembley for his country as they beat England recently and his impressive form has continued on the European stage. Benfica will have to go some against Barcelona if Pavlidis is to continue beyond the last 16 but the forward scored in both legs to see off Monaco in the play-off round. He bagged a hat-trick in a losing effort against Barcelona this year - and also in the statement win at Juventus.
