Patron Tommaso Giulini has announced that club legend Gigi Riva will become an honorary President of Cagliari.
The news was revealed during a presentation of the documentary made by Sky Sport Italia called ‘Federico Buffa tells Gigi Riva’s story, the man who was born twice.’
The current President announced that the former Italy international and European Championship winner would be rewarded the title this month.
“Gigi Riva has decided to give us a great gift, on December 18 he will become honorary President of Cagliari,” Giulini said according to the Gazzetta dello Sport.
Riva’s son Nicola was present during the presentation in an audience including other legends of the game like Alessandro Costacurta, Giuseppe Bergomi and Fabio Capello.
The 75-year-old was born in Lombardy and played 392 games and scored 213 goals during his illustrious career, winning Cagliari their only Scudetto in 1970 and Italy their only European Championship in 1968.
