Roma troll Juventus after Italian giants congratulate Ronaldo on award

Roma have hilariously mocked Serie A rivals Juventus after they congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo for securing UEFA's goal of the season award for his overhead kick against them.

The Portuguese superstar's stunning acrobatic goal for Real Madrid against his current club in last season's Champions League was announced as the winner of the competition on Tuesday.

His effort - which was even applauded by the Juventus faithful inside the Allianz Stadium back in April - topped the poll with nearly 200,000 of the overall 346,915 votes.

However, Roma were quick to jump on the ironic nature of Juventus applauding their player for a goal scored against them and replied to their tweet congratulating Ronaldo with a hilarious GIF of a bear looking particularly confused.

Other fans also replied to Juventus' post with more clips to express their confusion at the congratulatory message.

One shared an image of a girl looking clearly upset and suggested that was how Juve really felt, while another called for Roma's social media department to be given a pay rise.

Ronaldo's jaw-dropping strike is widely considered to be his very best and he has even admitted as much, before claiming the reaction from Juventus fans after his goal played a major factor in him deciding to move to Turin.

After hearing the news that he won the UEFA award, Ronaldo took to Instagram to thank his fans for voting for him and gave a special shout-out to the Juventus supporters inside the stadium that night.

The Portugal international wrote: 'Thanks to everyone who voted for me.

'Will never forget that moment, specially the reaction of the fans in the stadium. #UEFA Goal of the Season #SpecialMoment'.
